What it Really Takes to Raise Emotionally Healthy Families Series

Consciously Parenting: What it Really Takes to Raise Emotionally Healthy Families
Book 1 of the Consciously Parenting series

Welcome! I’m so happy that you’ve found your way here! I’m going to be sharing 30 days of parenting excerpts with you from my first ground breaking book, Consciously Parenting: What It Really Takes to Raise Emotionally Healthy Families. These ideas radically shifted my own family life and have enriched the lives of hundreds of families around the world. I’d like to share them with you to support you in making your family feel better for everyone.

I’m Rebecca Thompson Hitt, MS, MFT, PPNE, HFC and I’ve been working with children, individuals, and families for over 25 years. I trained first as an elementary school teacher and worked in the classroom for three years way back in the early 1990s. Though I loved the kids, I knew that wasn’t for me. I loved to talk to the parents about their kids, which none of my colleagues enjoyed (it was a sign!). Then, because of my own experience with therapy as an adult, I decided to study marriage and family therapy and completed my degree from Barry University in Miami Shores, FL summa cum laude (4.0 GPA) in 2001. (Best decision ever!) I’ve gone on to study various modalities from hypnotherapy to Prenatal and Perinatal Somatic Psychology, and I’m currently loving Polyvagal Theory, and many other modalities that help support changing transgenerational patterns.

But the core of my work comes from my own personal experiences of healing my relationship with myself (with lots of outside support) after experiencing layers of relational trauma, healing my relationship with my son after the loss of my baby, his brother, at birth from a fatal neural tube defect, and later supporting hundreds of families through big and small situations where there was a disconnection, a trauma, or a difficult situation.

I’ve combined my love of education and my love of supporting families and individuals to heal. Consciously Parenting was born 15 years ago in September of 2007 and I’ve been supporting families around the world since then! I’ve done a lot of healing and continue to learn, heal, and grow myself. Healthy families are a passion of mine and meeting us all exactly where we are with humility and grace makes the work so much easier all around!

My boys are grown now and I am still learning and growing along with them. I have a full practice of clients, many of whom I’ve been able to watch as their families have grown and their kids have grown up. What an honor that is!

My intention with Consciously Parenting is to take information from the current research and support the application of that information in real families like yours. I’m interested in looking at things through a different lens to make lasting changes that support the whole family! Whether you’re struggling to find your way through a challenge, you’re trying to find ways to strengthen your relationship, or you want to add skills to support your family in the inevitable bumps and challenges that come as our children grow, the principles I’ll be sharing with you in this series and in the course by the same name will guide your way forward.

These ideas aren’t just for a particular stage of parenting, but rather for the long haul and for life. I’m still applying the information I learned when my son was in elementary school now that he’s 23 and these ideas have supported me in every relationship I have! While I can’t guarantee how things will turn out for your family, what I’ve seen for myself and hear from others is that having this information makes the bumps of parenting (and life) less bumpy and gives guideposts for how to navigate the really rough spots that sometimes happen in life.

Over the next 30 days, I’ll be posting a short story, a sentence, or other thought here on my blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts about the ideas. If you’ve implemented them in your own home, tell me about it!

If you like this series about raising emotionally healthy families, I know you’ll love my book and my courses! The book and the course allow you to dive in more deeply to these concepts so that you can apply them directly to your family on your own time. The course also includes information and support for parenting older kids, teens, and even young adults.

Feel free to share these thoughts with your friends. Let’s spread the word and change the world, one family at a time! Come on! We’ll do it together!
