Free Audio: Interview with Jorge Rubio
by Stephanie Bachmann Mattei
Stephanie Bachmann Mattei, Ph.D., instructor of our Parenting from the Heart class series, interviewed Jorge Rubio on August 24, 2009. We invite you to join them as they discuss NVC and deep healing in this FREE one hour audio.
Jorge has been a CNVC certified trainer for 11 years. He has worked intensively in his country of origin, Colombia, as founder and executive director of The Foundation for Nonviolent Communication Center and participated in the Presidential program "Haz Paz", with the intention to create a culture of peace in a country of war.
He also directed three Community Peace pilot projects with the Colombian Institute for the Welfare of the Family, and worked at the INEM School (Instituto Nacional de Educacion Media), a public school in Ibague that serves the poorest economic strata.
He travels internationally to conduct workshops, and to consult and mediate with businesses, schools, organizations, police, families and individuals.
Recent extensive work in several regions of Bolivia has included workshops with government agencies at the national level, with child protective agencies, and with community and human rights organizations.

This interview focuses on NVC and deep healing:
1) In my parenting journey I realize more and more how much of my own emotional unresolved or left-over issues impact my rel. with my kids… How can NVC support parents in fostering their own healing journey?
2) I now hold my parenting journey as increasing me capacity to be this self-connected, empathic presence that provides external emotional regulation to my children when there are not regulated (state of emotional overwhelm.) Any reactions to that piece?
3) What are some simple steps that you see NVC could offer to parents to empower them to foster a healing process in our wounded children?
4) Children with traumatic histories (Adoption and Trauma) Given that background: trauma, regulatory system and inner reward system compromised, can NVC actually be a relational tool that supports healing and the building of connection and trust?
5) What is containment, and how can we provide structure (daily rhythm to meet needs for predictability and order) without over-powering them (without resorting to threats, consequences, some sort of punishment, or some sort of shame- or guilt- inducing communications.) so that they experience also a sense of power (trauma =powerlessness).
6) How does violence emerge in us?

Hello Stephanie,
Am absolutely thrilled hearing your interview with Jorge, who I know well having organized 2 workshops for him here in Spainwere I live. He’s my favorite NVC Trainer.
I felt so touched hearing his voice again and seeing that although it’s been several years since I last saw him I still resonate so deeplywith what he says.
And thank you so much for the gift of an inspiring hour of listening.
Warmly
Clemency
The interview was such a gift to me. I have such fond memories of Jorge working with us in Argentina and to hear his voice and his style of expressing NVC and parenting was a thrill. Deepening and inspiring. What he shared about empathy/presence as being so transformative touched me so deeply. I found myself weeping and weeping - so grateful for the opportunity in this life to have experienced it and to be able to share it with others.
Thank-you so much!
Martha
I was also an attendee at the New York Intensive 2009 and was delighted to see you had posted an interview with Jorge. I was very inspired and moved by it when I listened to it and am very grateful to you. I will listen to it many times. I am volunteering at a free school in Brooklyn and would love to introduce NVC to people there, so I eagerly learn as much as I can about NVC work with children. I was a teacher many years and still so love the presence children bring to my life and want to be as present as I can to them.
With warmth and gratitude,
Barbara
